DETOXING YOUR SKIN

by Danielle Huey

Your skin is the body’s largest organ, and it is constantly in contact with pollutants, dirt, and chemicals from the environment. These harmful elements can clog your pores, dry out your skin and give you other skin conditions.  Also, the toxins from your diet can cause your complexion to suffer. Your skin is one of the prime organs involved in eliminating harmful waste and toxins from your body, mainly through perspiration (sweating).  If your body is overwhelmed with toxins, your may develop acne, redness, rashes or abscesses to compensate as a way to try to get rid of these impurities.

A skin detox might be needed if you are suffering from any skin condition. Beginning a daily detoxification routine can rejuvenate your skin and reduce all kinds of skin problems. In addition, a skin detox helps your skin to eliminate the body’s waste products, which can, in turn, help improve the look and feel of your skin. Here are some signs if you need a skin detox:

  • Age spots—these can reflect waste buildup in your liver.

  • Ance—many adults experience breakouts during various times in their lives. If you are noticing any breakouts, it might be due to stress and exhaustion. These two things can interfere with your waste elimination process.

  • Dull—this may indicate waste buildup from medications or other medical treatments you have taken.

  • Wrinkles and sags—these are often the signs of skin aging, however, toxic buildup (such as from smoking) in the body can accelerate their formation.

  • Oily, red, itchy or scaly—this is a sign that your skin needs a thorough cleanse.

If you notice any of these problems with your skin, a detox may be the perfect way to help you with your skin conditions. Detoxication may seem daunting, but a few small and simple changes to your diet and skin care treatment routine can greatly improve your skin’s condition and help you look more healthy and vibrant.  We will provide you with some effective ways to help you regain the radiance back to your skin.

  1. Dry Brushing

Dry brushing is one of the best ways to detoxify your skin on a regular basis. It also is an effective way to maximize the toxin elimination channels of the skin. Purchase a shower brush and right before you take a shower or a bath, spend 5 to 10 minutes brushing your skin. Make sure to brush in circular motions and start with your feet and work your way up, massaging towards your heart. This is an effective way to increase nerve circulation, remove dead skin cells and clean your skin.

  1. Drink plenty of water

Water is the key to the fountain of youth.  Drinking plenty of water is a common recommendation for good health as it is also an essential step in detoxing your body inside and out. It’s a standard recommendation to drink at least eight 8oz of water each day, but you can always drink more as a way to cleanse out your system. It’s also important to make sure your water is pure and doesn’t have any added toxins. Consider using a water filter or drinking spring water instead of drinking straight from the tap.

  1. Detoxing Diet

You are what you eat! The more junk food you eat, the more your skin will suffer as it tries to get rid of all those excess toxins. During the detox process, try to refrain from congesting foods like animal fats, dairy products, white bread, sugar and fast food. It’s best to eat fruits, vegetables, and nuts.

  1. Exfoliate

Dry brushing is one method to exfoliate your skin, however, there are different tactics you can try when exfoliating, such as using sea salt. Exfoliating with sea salt about 2 to 4 times week can help slough away dead skin cells and encourage new and younger looking cells to emerge.

  1. Sweat it out

Having a daily exercise routine will get your heart beating and your skin sweating. Sweating helps cleanse toxins from your body. Try to exercise at least 5 times a week and consider heat yoga or a spa session (sauna) to turn up the heat.

  1. Take a bath

Taking a bath as a way to detoxify your skin can help clear pollutants in the pores of your skin. Try adding a cup of Epsom salt and a cup of apple cider vinegar to your bath water. These two things will draw dirt and other impurities out of your pores while helping your skin to start over fresh. You can also add in scent oils to make your bath more luxurious.

  1. Mud masks

Mud masks are a great way to detoxify your skin. They help pull toxins and waste materials out of your skin, banishing clogged pores while revitalizing dull skin. They are good for purification anytime. Make sure to cleanse your skin first before using the mud and then rinse off once the mud has dried.

  1. Go makeup free

This might be hard for some people, but consider going making free while your skin adjusts to your new skin care routine. Also, keep into account all the harm that makeup does to your skin. If you are unwilling to eliminate using make-up, then try to reduce the amount of makeup you use or try to invest in all-natural makeup that does less harm to your skin. Lastly, remember to always remove your makeup before you go to bed.

Bottom Line

The feeling of getting clean with your skin is can be peaceful and help boost your overall self-esteem. It’s important to tune in and spend some time with your skin and observe the changes as you go along. In the end result, you will find natural ingredients and regular care will feed your skin and give it youthful radiance.
